Marge is probably Mark

Sorry these pictures are all jacked up! The first ones are at the bottom and they go up as the story goes down the page!

In Feb we got 5 chickens. I stated out to get 2 and the lady that I bought them from told me to get more because all of them usually don't make it. Well they did. Plus I have added 3 more to the flock.

Here is the first batch. Emily, the white fluffy one is a silkie. She has crooked feet but she is a great pet. The other 2 are a golden laced wyandotte and a barred rock. We have 2 of each of these. Prudence, Marge, Gladis, and Twinkydink. Most of these names come from a book called "Tillie Lays an Egg". More about that book later.

Next we got Matilda, or Tilda as she has come to be known. She is the brown one all alone. She is a speckled sussex. She was our house chicken because the others picked on her, but she prefers the rabbit hutch outside.

Next I got Blackie. She was hatched at school and had not absorbed all of the yolk in the egg. I won't go into all this but after doing some research we cut it off of her. She was about half the size of the others that hatched. I took her and fed her with a dropper every few hours. I did this for a week and then the lady who I bought my chicks from told me to put a an austerlope chick in with her. This was the best idea ever! She is now eating and drinking like normal.

Now that the first chickes are bigger it looks as if Marge is really Mark and she will have to go back to the farm where she came from! It makes me sad. She is such a beautiful bird. Here are some pictures of Lafe and his chichens.

Okay, I said I would never have a blog because:

A. I hate reading about people telling you how wonderful they and their families, home, bank account, etc. are.
B. I don't care what you are having for dinner or what you are doing every second of the day.
AND...
C. Because Iwould lose interest very fast in updating it.

Why I decided to finally take the plunge:
A. We are moving again and I have never documented our homes and the work we have done on them.
B. I have just discovered chickens and have had to learn all kinds of wonderful things about them, and in doing so I have discovered things that could actually help people out. Then I realized I may have other info on food storage, crafts, gardening, etc. that may help others out too.
AND...
C. Because Les is going to Iraq and this is how I can update everyone at once.

So starting tomorrow I will try and get in the habit of updating this thing on some sort of regular basis!
